You do not have to be a member of Biggin Hill & District Horticultural Society in order to exhibit at our shows.

Exhibition Classes Autumn Show are divided into sections and numbered as follows –

Horticultural Section

Exhibitor’s attention is drawn to Show Rule 2a

Class

  1. Collection of vegetables, six kinds, numbers and kinds from main vegetable classes Garnishing allowed. Space allowed 2’6” x 3’ (762mm x 914mm).
  2. Top Tray Collection, Three kinds from: Carrots (3), Cauliflower (2), Onions (3), Parsnips (3), Peas (6),

Potatoes (3), Runner Beans (6), Tomatoes (6). Tray supplied 18” x 24” (915mm x 610mm).

  1. Organic Collection, One each of five different kinds of Space 24” depth by 12” wide ( 610mm x 305mm). (To be shown under H.D.R.A. guidelines – available from sales table).
  2. The Corby Cup – see Class 101
  3. Five uncoloured potatoes, one cultivar.
  4. Five coloured potatoes, one cultivar.
  5. Collection of potatoes, two cultivars, three of each.
  6. Three beetroots, tops shortened to approximately 3” (76mm).
  7. Three carrots, a long, pointed variety, tops shortened to approximately 3” (76mm). Variety: ‘New Red Intermediate’ qualifies for this class.
  8. Three carrots, other than long, pointed variety, tops shortened to approximately 3” (76mm). Varieties ‘Amsterdam Forcing’ and ‘Autumn King’ qualify for this class.
  9. One cauliflower to be staged with approximately 3” stalk (76mm).
  10. A pair of cabbages to be staged with approximately 3” stalks (76mm).
  11. A pair of vegetable marrows , max length 15” (381mm).
  12. Heaviest pumpkin – 1st prize only.
  13. Heaviest marrow – 1st prize only.
  14. Nine runner beans (with stalks).
  15. Longest bean (with stalk) – 1st prize only.
  16. Three onions not from sets, over 8 ¾ oz (250g).
  17. Five onions grown from sets, tied.

(Onions that are heavily stripped will be penalized)

  1. Heaviest onion, top tied 3” (76mm) – 1st prize only.
  2. Five onions, tied, each 8 ¾ oz (250g) or under.
  3. Twelve shallots, large.
  4. Twelve shallots, small for pickling (max 1 3/16” (30mm) diameter).
  5. Three parsnips, tops shortened to approximately 3” (76mm).
  6. Three blanched leeks, with tops tied.
  7. A pair of lettuces, any cultivar.

Class

  1. Five tomatoes, ripe. Over 40mm. Same variety.
  2. Five tomatoes. 25mm to 40mm. Same variety.
  3. Five tomatoes . Under 25mm. Same variety.
  4. Best truss of tomatoes, ripe or unripe. Should have at least 1/3 of truss fully ripe.
  5. A pair of cucumbers, grown in house or frame.
  6. Three courgettes, not more than 9” (225mm).
  7. Any other vegetable including ornamental varieties.
  8. Five sprays of fresh herbs (different types) in a jam jar.
  9. One container perennials (as Class 37), one container annuals (as Class 38), three vegetables (one of each three different kinds). Space allowed 2’6” x 3’ (762mm x 914mm).
  10. Any peculiar shaped fruit or vegetable.
  11. One container of perennials or flowers normally treated as such. Minimum five stems, one or more varieties.
  12. One container of annuals or flowers normally treated as such, minimum five stems, one or more varieties. e.g. bedding plants.
  13. One H.T. or large flowered
  14. Three H.T. or large flowered roses.
  15. Five H.T. or large flowered roses.
  16. One spray of polyantha roses.

42a) One spray of floribunda or cluster flower roses.

  1. A Fuchsia in a pot not exceeding 9” (229mm).
  2. Six Fuchsia blooms on a sheet of A4 paper.
  3. One flowering pot plant, pot not to exceed 9” (229mm), excluding Orchids.
  4. One Orchid, pot not to exceed 9” (229mm).
  5. One foliage pot plant, pot not to exceed 9” (229mm).
  6. A bowl of mixed garden flowers, own foliage. Space allowed 24” (610mm) to be judged for quality, variety and arrangement.
  7. Gladioli three spikes- one container.
  8. Largest Sunflower Head – 1st prize only.
  9. Flowering branch.
  10. One container five stems of spray chrysanthemums, single, the centre may be removed.
  11. One container five stems of spray chrysanthemums, double, the centre may be removed.
  12. One container of Chrysanthemums, any cultivar.
  13. Unusual pot plant. Use your imagination. Not to exceed 12” (300mm)

DAHLIAS

Class

  1. One giant or large decorative.
  2. Three medium decorative, one or more cultivars.
  3. Three small decorative, one cultivar.
  4. Five small decorative, one or more cultivars.
  5. Five miniature decorative, one or more cultivars.
  6. One giant or large cactus or semi-cactus.
  7. Three medium cactus or semi-cactus, one or more cultivars.
  8. Three small cactus or semi-cactus.
  9. Five small cactus or semi-cactus, one or more cultivars.
  10. Five miniature cactus or semi-cactus, one or more cultivars.
  11. Three small ball, one cultivar.
  12. Five miniature ball, one or more cultivars.
  13. Three miniature ball, one cultivar.
  14. Five pompom, one or more cultivars.
  15. One container three small/miniature cactus or semi-cactus. One container three small/miniature ball, one cultivar One container three small/miniature decorative, one cultivar. Each cultivar in a separate container.
  16. A container of three of any other dahlia not classified above, e.g. water lily, collerette, large pompom.
  17. A bowl of dahlias, own foliage. Space allowed 24” (610mm) to be judges for quality, variety and arrangement.

FRUIT SECTION

Each Class should be fruit of the same variety.
