Show Rules for Biggin Hill & District Horticultural Society

Eligibility of Competitors
Members and non-members may exhibit in all classes.

Entries
a] Unless otherwise stated all exhibits must have been in the exhibitor’s possession for three months and have been grown in his or her garden or allotment.
b] Exhibits in the Domestic and Handicraft Section must have been made or prepared by the exhibitor. In the Handicraft Section no exhibit can be shown which has previously been awarded a prize at a previous Show of the Society
c] An authorised member or members of the Committee may visit an exhibitor’s garden or allotment.
d] The times for receiving entry forms and fees, and for setting up exhibits and removing them, shall be as stated in the Schedule for each Show.
e] The right to cancel or amalgamate classes is reserved.

Exhibits
a] The Committee will take all reasonable care but will not be responsible for loss or damage to exhibits.
b] Exhibitors are reminded to remove all exhibits as soon as the show closes.

Staging
a] All exhibits shall be STAGED PERSONALLY by competitors or by a member of the Committee if the competitor is unable to do so. Young persons under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
b] An exhibitor may stage two exhibits (only one to score points) in each class in all shows.
c] Stated sizes of containers refer to the maximum internal horizontal dimension.
d] The Society supplies all containers for Flower Classes, other than Floral Art Section and for classes in which flowers are arranged for effect.

Judging
a] All the Shows held by the Society shall be governed and judged under the rules and regulations of The Royal Horticultural Society or specialist Society nominated.
b] Only the Stewards, Show Secretary and anyone authorised by the Show Secretary shall be allowed in the hall while judging is in progress.
c] The judge may withhold prizes if exhibits are not up to standard, but if the only entry is of a high standard it may receive First Prize.
d] The judge’s decision shall be based upon the merit of the exhibit, his or her interpretation of the Schedule and within the rules of the Society nominated. The Judge’s decision shall be final.
e] Judges will disqualify entries which are not according to schedule (NAS) and give a brief explanation.
f] Judging in the Floral Art Section will be based on the experience and discretion of the Judge. Space allowed for each exhibit is 24 inches.

Protests
Any protest should be specific, in writing and handed to the Show Secretary within one hour of the opening of the Show to the public.

Awards and Trophies
Unless otherwise stated, all Cups and Trophies are for annual competition. All such Cups and Trophies must be returned prior to the same Show in the following year. All reasonable care should be taken to maintain the Cup or Trophy in good condition. Any damage should be notified to the Show Secretary
