You do not have to be a member of Biggin Hill & District Horticultural Society in order to exhibit at our shows.
Exhibition Classes Spring Show are divided into sections and numbered as follows –
Horticultural Section
Exhibitor’s attention is drawn to Show Rule 2a
Classes 1 – 16: any cultivar and plant’s foliage *
Class
- Three trumpet daffodils
- One trumpet daffodil
- Three large cupped daffodils
- One large cupped daffodil

- Three daffodils, one in each container, each variety to be a distinct cultivar from three different divisions For example, large cup, trumpet, double *
- One container of nine daffodils, any cultivar, with plant’s foliage *
- One bowl of cut daffodils, any cultivar, with plant’s foliage – space 24” (610mm) for all round effect to be judged for quality, variety and arrangement. *
- Pot of daffodil bulbs, any cultivar – pot not to exceed 9” (229mm) *
- One stem of hyacinth, any cultivar
- Pot or bowl of bulbous plants#
- Container of six tulips, can be mixed varieties, own foliage.
- Container of mixed flowering stems containing a minimum of ten stems, taken from a minimum of two different kinds of plants. Judged for all-round effect.
- Container of polyanthus, five stems, outdoor grown, polyanthus foliage only.
- Container of primroses, six stems one or more varieties.
- One pot cactus or succulent
- One pot plant, not flowering. Pot not to exceed 9” (229mm) Indoor / Outdoor
- Flowering pot plant, other than bulbous plants# Indoor / Outdoor
- Flowering shrubs. Frontal arrangement with own foliage Space allowed 24” (610mm)##
- Spring flowers. Frontal arrangement with any foliage. Space allowed 24” (610mm)##
- Primula in a pot – pot not to exceed 9” (229mm)##.
- Five viola
- Five pansies
- Alpine plant in a pot
- One trumpet or large cup daffodil.

Photography

Spring Show Awards
Definitions for Narcissus / Daffodils – blog with pictures
Recipes for Domestic Classes
Marble pear tray bake
Ingredients
100g caster sugar
100g butter or soft baking spread
2 eggs
100g self-raising flour
1 x 15ml spoon cocoa powder
1 x 5ml spoon baking powder
½ pear
Baking tin (20cm square) or foil tray.
Method
- Preheat the oven to 180ºC/fan 160 ºC/gas mark 4.
- Grease and line the baking tin or foil tray.
- Cream the sugar and fat together, ideally using an electric hand whisk, until light and fluffy.
- In a small bowl, beat the eggs with a fork.
- Add the beaten egg, a little at a time, to the fat and sugar.
- Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl.
- Fold the flour and baking powder into the mixture, a spoonful at a time.
- Core and chop the pear into small pieces. Scatter pieces of pear into the lined cake tin.
- Spoon half of the plain cake mixture into the tin.
- Stir in the cocoa to the remaining cake mixture.
- Spoon the chocolate mixture into the baking tin and then swirl the two mixtures together to create a marble effect.
- Place in the oven and bake for 20 minutes, until golden brown and springy to the touch.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
